Forty seasons and counting

The 2005-2006 season marks the film society, Cinema, Inc.'s, fortieth season of showing great films at the Rialto, at a great price! Each year, the Raleigh, NC-based nonprofit screens twelve feature films - and assorted short films, as time permits - for $20. That's only $1.67 per movie, which makes Cinema, Inc. the Triangle's biggest entertainment bargain.

They screen one movie monthly, at 7:00 p.m., at the Rialto Theater. Admission is by season ticket only.

It all began in 1966...

"The Cinema, Inc. is the oldest continuously operating community-based nonprofit film society in Raleigh, the state of North Carolina, and probably the entire nation," says long-time board member and current president, Dr. Peter B. Corson. "When we started out in 1966, there were very few local theaters that screened vintage movies of historical or artistic importance, including art films and foreign movies with subtitles."

Corson explains that the film society "filled an important gap for local aficionados of fine film. Four decades later, we are still going strong and expect another sellout this year. Our screenings may be the only chance most of our subscribers have to see some of their favorite movies on the big screen."
